In the first 5 months of 2012, China¡¯s import and export value of agricultural products amounted to 69.07 billion USD, up by 18.1% over the same period of last year. This growth rate was 10.4% higher than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total foreign trade. The trade volume of agricultural products accounted for 4.6% of the nation¡¯s total foreign trade volume. Among that, the export was 24.47 billion USD, a 3.7% year-on-year increase, while the import was 44.61 billion USD, a 27.8% year-on-year increase. The trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to 20.14 billion USD, a 77.9% increase over the same period of last year. The export of agricultural products accounted for 3.2% of China¡¯s total export value, while the import of such products accounted for 6.1% of the country¡¯s total import.
