In the first 4 months of 2012, China’s import and export value of agricultural products amounted to 54.06 billion USD, up by 17.6% over the same period of last year. This growth rate was 11.6% higher than the growth rate of the nation’s total foreign trade. The trade volume of agricultural products accounted for 4.6% of the nation’s total foreign trade volume. Among that, the export was 19.28 billion USD, a 3.2% year-on-year increase, while the import was 34.79 billion USD, a 27.4% year-on-year increase. The trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to 15.51 billion USD, a 79.7% increase over the same period of last year. The export of agricultural products accounted for 3.2% of China’s total export value, while the import of such products accounted for 6.1% of the country’s total import.
