In the first quarter of 2012, China’s import and export value of agricultural products amounted to 39.86 billion USD, up by 19.6% over the same period of last year. This growth rate was 12.3% higher than the growth rate of the nation’s total foreign trade. Among that, the export value was 14.31 billion USD, a 5.5% year-on-year increase, while the import was 25.55 billion USD, a 29.2% year-on-year increase. The trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to 11.24 billion USD, a 80.7% increase over the same period of last year. The export of agricultural products accounted for 3.3% of China’s total export value, while the import of such products accounted for 5.9% of the country’s total import.
