In the first eight months of 2011, China¡¯s import and export value of agricultural products amounted to USD 96.57 billion, up by 29.2% over the same period of last year. This growth rate was 3.8% higher than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total foreign trade. Among that, the export value was USD 38.12 billion, a 27.8% year-on-year increase, while the import was USD 58.45 billion, a 30.1% year-on-year increase. The trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to USD 20.33 billion, a 34.5% increase over the same period of last year. The export of agricultural products accounted for 3.1% of China¡¯s total export value, while the import of such products accounted for 5.2% of the country¡¯s total import.
