In the first five months of 2011, China¡¯s import and export value of agricultural products amounted to USD 58.5 billion, up by 32% over the same period of last year. This growth rate was 4.6% higher than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total foreign trade. Among that, the export value was USD 23.6 billion, a 32.6% year-on-year increase, while the import was USD 34.9 billion, a 31.6% year-on-year increase. The trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to USD 11.3 billion, a 29.7% increase over the same period of last year. The export of agricultural products accounted for 3.3% of China¡¯s total export value, while the import of such products accounted for 5.1% of the country¡¯s total import.
