According to Chinese Customs, in the first 5 months of 2014, China¡¯s import and export value of agricultural products amounted to 80.97 billion USD, up by 12.6% over the same period of last year. Among that, the export value was 27.59 billion USD, a 4.8% year-on-year increase, while the import was 53.37 billion USD, a 17.1% year-on-year growth. The trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to 25.78 billion USD, a 33.9% increase over the same period of last year. The growth rate of agricultural trade was 12.4% higher than that of the nation¡¯s total foreign trade. The growth rate of agricultural export was 5.2% higher than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total export, while the growth of agricultural import was 16.3% higher than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total import. The export of agricultural products accounted for 3.2% of China¡¯s total export value, while the import of such products accounted for 6.6% of the country¡¯s total import.
