According to Chinese Customs, in the first 8 months of 2013, China¡¯s import and export value of agricultural products amounted to 118.88 billion USD, up by 5.6% over the same period of last year. Among that, the export value was 42.51 billion USD, a 7.7% year-on-year increase, while the import was 76.37 billion USD, a 4.4% year-on-year growth. The trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to 33.86 billion USD, a 0.5% increase over the same period of last year. The growth of agricultural trade was 2.7% lower than that of the nation¡¯s total foreign trade. The growth rate of agricultural export was 1.5% lower than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total export, while the growth of agricultural import was 2.9% lower than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total import. The export of agricultural products accounted for 3% of China¡¯s total export value, while the import of such products accounted for 6% of the country¡¯s total import.
