According to Chinese Customs, in January 2013, China¡¯s import and export value of agricultural products amounted to 16.12 billion USD, up by 22.7% over the same period of last year. Among that, the export value was 5.95 billion USD, a 10% year-on-year increase, while the import was 10.17 billion USD, a 31.6% year-on-year growth. The trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to 4.21 billion USD, an 82.1% increase over the same period of last year. The growth rate of agricultural import was 2.8% higher than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total import. The growth of agricultural trade was 4% lower than that of the nation¡¯s total foreign trade, while the growth of agricultural export was 15% lower than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total export. The export of agricultural products accounted for 3.2% of China¡¯s total export value, while the import of such products accounted for 6.4% of the country¡¯s total import.
