In the first eight months of 2012, China¡¯s import and export value of agricultural products amounted to 112.51 billion USD, up by 16.5% over the same period of last year. This growth rate was 10.3% higher than the growth rate of the nation¡¯s total foreign trade. The trade volume of agricultural products accounted for 4.5% of the nation¡¯s total foreign trade volume. Among that, the export was 39.41 billion USD, a 3.4% year-on-year increase, while the import was 73.11 billion USD, a 25.1% year-on-year increase. The trade deficit of agricultural products amounted to 33.7 billion USD, a 65.8% increase over the same period of last year. The export of agricultural products accounted for 3% of China¡¯s total export value, while the import of such products accounted for 6.2% of the country¡¯s total import.
