Vice President Yu Lu Attends 24th Session of the FAO Intergovernmental Group on Tea

On February 23, 2022, the 24th Session of the FAO Intergovernmental Group on Tea (IGG/Tea) was held online. Vice President Yu Lu, as a core member of the Chinese delegation, participated in the meeting and delivered a speech. Nearly 200 representatives from nearly 30 tea producing and consuming countries including Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, the United States, Russia, Sri Lanka, Turkey, and the United Kingdom attended the meeting . Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.
 
UK was elected as the chair country and India and China as the vice-chairs during the session. This conference mainly includes 6 parts: firstly, to exchange the development status and main issues of the global tea market, to discuss the prospects of tea production, consumption, trade and price and its potential impact on the sustainability of the global tea economy; secondly, to discuss the influence of COVID 19 on tea market; thirdly, to discuss and pass six working groups under the Intergovernmental Group on Tea (pesticide residues, tea trade and quality, organic tea, climate change, global tea market analysis and promotion, tea smallholders ) submitted by the group meeting report; fourthly, the secretariat of the Tea Working Group and member states of the main group briefly introduced the implementation of the "International Tea Day" celebration; China and Canada are the co-chairs; sixthly, to form the report of this session.
