China-US Dairy Industry Virtual Forum 2021, co-hosted by CFNA and the U.S. Dairy Export Council (USDEC), was successfully held on Dec.22, 2021. Vice president Yu Lu chaired the forum. The event aims to analyze the import policy of dairy products, share the current status and future development trends of the Chinese and American dairy industry, deepen international cooperation in dairy products, and broaden horizons and create business opportunities for colleagues in the dairy industry. The wonderful speeches of more than ten specially invited guests attracted 341 people to register for the conference, and the number of online viewers reached 630 in just three hours.
Jiao Yang, director of the TBT research department of the international inspection and quarantine standards and technical regulations research center of the General Administration of Customs of China, authoritatively interpreted the ¡°Regulations on the Registration and Administration of Overseas Producers of Imported Food¡± (Degree 248) and "Administrative Measures on Import and Export Food Safety" (Decree 249). Chen Bing, chief economic analyst of the Dairy Association of China, analyzed the production and trade of China¡¯s domestic milk and dairy product and answered in detail many questions raised by the USDEC and representatives of various dairy companies in the Q&A session.
Mr. Bobby Richey, Minister Counselor for Agricultural Affairs and Acting Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing, stated that the common goal of China and the United States is to provide consumers with safe, abundant, and high-quality food and agricultural products, and to provide farmers and food manufacturers with the highest quality agricultural raw materials. American dairy farmers are committed to cooperating with Chinese dairy companies to meet these challenges and meet Chinese consumers' demand for high-quality dairy products.
Vikki Nicholson-West, senior vice president of global ingredients marketing, said at the forum that China is the world's second largest health food and dietary supplement market, second only to the United States. The development of innovative health foods that contain milk protein and suitable for local tastes provides huge market potential for Chinese and American companies to meet the growing needs of consumers. We look forward to working with end users in China to develop new opportunities and provide Chinese consumers with new choices.
According to Stephen Cain, an economic analyst of the National Milk Producers Federation and USDEC, China dominates the global whey market. In the past 12 months, global exports of whey to China have increased by 33%. So far this year, the dairy trade between the United States and China has increased by 52%, indicating that the strengthened and sustained partnership between the two countries is a win-win situation.
Chen Yaojun, chief marketing representative of USDEC, mentioned that China and the United States should help each other to build a Sino-US cooperative partnership featuring mutual respect, mutual benefit and win-win results.
Domestic and foreign dairy industry experts attended the China-US Dairy Industry Virtual Forum 2021. Annie Bienvenue, vice president of global ingredients technical marketing services of USDEC, Su Chang, marketing representative of USDEC, Dr. Qingping Liu, director of the Asia-Pacific Region of International Raw Materials LTD and Dr. Zhou Peng, professor of the state key laboratory of food science and technology of Jiangnan University, respectively analyzed in depth various products including skimmed milk powder, American milk raw materials, low-protein whey powder, milk protein and dairy permeate powder.
Martin Bates, senior vice president and chief operating officer of American Dairy Farming Company, gave a detailed introduction to American Dairy Farming Company. American dairy suppliers and Chinese manufacturers are able to apply safe and high-quality American dairy products, innovate and develop new products, and provide Chinese consumers with more choices.
This forum used a new method of online live broadcast, breaking the limit on the number of offline participants, sharing the latest information of the forum with domestic and foreign counterparts for the first time, and effectively combining the advantages of resources, markets, and brands, so that the domestic and foreign dairy industry could cooperate on a larger scale and at a higher level. The forum met the needs of Chinese consumers for safe, high-quality, affordable and diversified dairy products, and contributed to the healthy and sustainable development of the dairy product trade.
