As one of the official on-site supporting activities of the inaugural China International Import Expo, the first China Import Food Summit and the 2018 Annual Report Press Conference, hosted by CFNA and organized by Bright Foods (Group) Co., Ltd., were held in Shanghai on Nov 7 at the National Exhibition and Convention Center £¨shanghai£©. Assistant Minister of Commerce Ren Hongbin attended the summit and delivered a speech. CFNA President Bian Zhenhu and Vice President Yu Lu jointly presided over the meeting. Attending were more than 300 representatives from the Ministry of Commerce, the General Administration of Customs, the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, relevant government departments at home and abroad, food industry organizations and enterprises.
Ren Hongbin pointed out that in the past two decades from 1997 to 2017, the average compound annual growth rate of China's imported food was 14.6%. In 2017, China imported 66.1 billion US dollars of food, up 11%. Every year, China imports a large number of dairy products, aquatic products, meat products, fruit and nuts from more than 180 countries and regions, not only satisfying the diversified and personalized consuming demand of people, but also bringing rich returns to agricultural exporters.
The 2018 China Import Food Report was released in the summit, within which the import conditions of meat; dairy products; aquatic and marine products; and fruits and fruit products were analyzed. It teased out the history and development of China¡¯s import food in the past 20 years, and illustrated the motivational role of China¡¯s trade facilitation measures and import-encouraging policies to the fast development of the food industry.
Leading enterprises including Bright Foods, Nestle, Fonterra, CJ, JBS, etc., and industrial organizations including U.S. Dairy Export Council etc., attended the event and shared their experience in seizing the opportunities of China¡¯s reform and opening-up, and satisfying Chinese consumers¡¯ ever-growing needs for a better life.
